Playa Bejuco

Playa Bejuco is one of the few nearly untouched beaches on central Pacific, Costa Rica. This is a relaxing, pristine coastal town which offers visitors a remote open coastline. Playa Bejuco Costa Rica Is located to the north of San Miguel and south of Islita. At this point you can stroll for miles and miles on stunning beaches. It is located 17 kilometers southeast of Playa Carillo. This is 3.5 km long beach extends from the Bustamante Rock to the Bejuco Point. This beach has moderate to strong waves and not suitable for the swimmer beginners but the beach breaks are catching the attention of surfers. There very consistence waves make this place a true surf’s paradise. It is one of the few surfing hotspots that have managed to stay mainly unnoticed in Costa Rica. Blue Flag award winner, Playa Bejuco is a beautifully clean beach in Costa Rica, lined with tropical greenery and showing some of the most powerful waves in the country. The brown sand beach is very long and it is covered with palms. The community of Playa Bejuco is very small with no commercial businesses. The beach at Bejuco is a local fishing spot where many local people make their living. There are very few restaurants to get enjoyment of Costa Rican meals. Many people have small boats offer fishing trips. If you want to switch from surfing, other tours are available including boat excursions and horseback rides along the beach.

Costa Rica is famous for its natural beauty and friendly people. The country’s natural beauty, wildlife, and status for progressive protection of the nature attract tourists from through out the world. Costa Rica has several of the best surfing of the world, beaches in abundance, and a tropical environment that give for a thrilling holiday.
The Central Pacific has spectacular sunsets over its rock-strewn coastline, massive marlin and snapper that draw attention of fishermen from all over the world, rocky rain forests that spread out from malleable sandy beaches and waves that make break for both beginners and professional both. The central region offers plentiful outdoor and indoor activities for travelers of all ages to experience the beauty of the region.
The travelers from throughout the Costa Rica and from around the world visit the central Pacific region for their holidays with their families, honeymooners and all are satisfied with highly developed tourist infrastructure. Jaco is the most developed place, though it still retains the small town atmosphere. The peace-seekers have to visit Playa Hermosa or Playa Esterillos for unspoiled scenery and long untouched beaches.
The Central Pacific’s weather can be divided into two: a dry season which starts from end December to mid-April is the most enjoyable weather with temperatures averaged around 81 degrees and the beaches rushed off your feet in sunshine 11-12 hours a day. In fact March and April are the hottest months of the year. You will find mostly sunny mornings and early afternoon or evening showers.
Bejuco can be an amazing experience for a secluded vacation getaway or a wonderful day tour if staying in neighboring areas.

Playa Bejuco does not have any mainstream hotels right on the beach, however if you search you can find some privately owned beach houses for rent. There are many towns neighboring Bejuco such as San Miguel, Coyote, and Costa de Oro, in these towns you can find more accommodations and restaurants, ecolodges and night entertainment including casino.

Accommodation

A few accommodations nearby are Hotel Islita, Casita Azul Plata, and Cabinas Don Elias.

Hotel Punta Islita
Hotel Punta Islita is a little further north than the others and is a high end hotel. At the hotel they offer several amenities including spa treatment, group activities, a restaurant and much more.

The Casitas Azul Plata
The Casitas Azul Plata is one of the closest accommodations to Playa Bejuco. Here you will find 2 apartments for rent each with two rooms and a bathroom. In every apartment the rooms are equipped with a queen size bed and a room with two single beds. Also every apartment features A/C, full kitchen, oven, and satellite TV. There is also barbeque area, a pool and an attractive view of the Pacific.

The Cabinas Don Elias

The Cabinas Don Elias is closer than Hotel Punta Islita but still a drive from Playa Bejuco. Here there are three choices of prices which depend on the number of people staying. A house which can sleep 14 persons rent for $750 a week and cabinas 2, 3, and 4 sleep between 6 and 8 people and are $480 a week. They offer a pool, satellite TV and hot water.

Hotel Playa Bejuco
The Hotel Playa Bejuco is located 20 minutes from Jaco Center and 35 minutes from Quepos Antonio. It is an ideal place to relax in a memorable and tranquil atmosphere; surrounded by beautiful gardens. In addition to this, it is located on the cleanest beaches (the Blue Flag was granted) Rooms equipped with TV by refrigerators cable and all the comforts that you and your family can have. It has a swimming pool also.

Delfin Beach Front Resort
The Delfin Beach Front Resort Is located on the tranquil and secluded Bejuco Beach. This is a recently restored Costa Rican landmark, featuring luxury accommodations with beachfront rooms, less than 40 meters from the Pacific Ocean. It is situated between Jaco and Quepos/Manuel Antonio on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

Activities & Tours in and around Playa Bejuco

It is the one of the best surf place of the area. The visitors can find and experience the larger swells. You can take a day tour to the nearby places, have horseback ride along the beach, fish sports, Diving, bird watching and go to nearby National Parks.
You can take a walk on Costa Rica’s nature trail and beach and you can the sight of whiteface monkeys, scarlet macaws, crocodiles, Lora sea turtles or whales playing in the Pacific.

Getting to Playa Bejuco, Costa Rica
The roads in and to Bejuco are generally in pretty bad condition, like much of Costa Rica, but for many tourists, this adds to the adventure. A little north of Bejuco is an airport between the towns of Corozalito and Islita, which can make travel to the area easier. The airport is in Punta Islita and flights can be booked here by Nature Air.
Playa Bejuco is on a 2-hour drive from the airport in San Jose on the coastal highway between Jaco and Quepos/Manuel Antonio. You can follow the signs along the highway to Jaco when you reach to Jaco; further south is Playa Esterillos, Playa Bejuco, and Playa Palma.

From Jaco: Drive south approximately 30 kilometers. After you pass Esterillos, Monterey and Del Pacifico, you will see signs on your right for the entrance to Playa Bejuco.

From Quepos/Manuel Antonio: Drive north approximately 30 kilometers. After you pass the town of Parrita, the entrance to Playa Bejuco is approximately 13 kilometers on your left.

Playa Herradura Central Pacific, Costa Rica

Playa Herradura is a coastal town of the Central Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica. It is located about 4 kilometers north of Jaco. It was a small and quiet beach some ten years ago mostly visited by campers and Ticos. Playa Herradura was an unknown paradise. It has a super black sand beach with aqua green waters and a palm tree lined coastline. Playa Herradura is today a tourist hotspot on the Northern Puntarenas coast. This place is an ideal for those who want to escape from the crowd of Jaco; this beach has flourished into a much traveled holiday destination.
Even with its several touristy projects Playa Herradura still does not attract as many visitors as Jaco does, making it a great place to slip away. With a camping ground nearby with showers and other basic facilities just a few hundred meters from the shore; this beach is wonderful for the budget traveler and tourist. From Playa Herradura you can also move to north to the lovely Refugio Punta Leona, or down south to the great Playa Hermosa.

Playa Herradura have got wider recognition amongst the surfers of the world. Surfers prefer the waves that are produced in Herradura Bay.
The beach is positioned near County’s rainforest and some Costa Rica’s most popular National Parks. It is close to the town of Jaco. Playa Herradura provides visitors to this area with both indoor and outdoor activities. The facility at Los Suenos Resort, which is a tourist attraction within Playa Herradura, tenders a number of outdoor activities including deep sea fishing. Playa Hermosa Central Pacific, Costa Rica

Playa Hermosa is located in the province of Puntarenas on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. It is situated about 5 kilometers south of Jaco. The Hermosa Beach is one of the best Surf place. There is another Playa Hermosa that is located in the in Guanacaste province and is not a surfing beach.

Playa Hermosa is a less crowded, grey-sand beach that boundaries a charming and quiet Pacific Ocean. A series of national parks are at a short distance away, facilitating visitors with an enormous opportunity to closely interact with Costa Rica’s distinctive eco system. The Playa Hermosa of Puntarenas province is just 10 minutes drive away from the beach town of Jaco. The visitors can reach to this surfing destination with a 2 hours drive from San Jose, Costa Rica. This beach offers some of the best and consistent surf breaks in the country and world. It is worth to mention that due to strong current, this is not an ideal beach for swimmers and can be dangerous. While Jaco beach has waves for both experienced and beginners’ surfers to get pleasure from the waves. Playa Hermosa is an expert surfer’s beach with waves getting as high as thirteen feet. Due the world class waves, the Playa Hermosa organizes the International Quicksilver Surf Championships every year in August which attracts hundreds of expert surfers to Hermosa Beach from all over the world. The best time to surf is from April to November, when the tide is high and intensifying. One of the most famous breaks on the beach is located in front of a large tree known as ‘Almond Tree’.

Several economical and high end accommodations are available in Playa Hermosa. Most surfers are inclined to stay in Jaco that has a number of quality hotels, bars, restaurants, resorts, rental houses and rooms for rent. Several people frequently prefer to surf the black sand beach of Hermosa to Jaco, as this beach is less crowded during the week.

This area is best for spending a day for relaxing, sunbath at the beach. Staying in Playa Hermosa is an excellent choice if you want to live it up with the surf crowd. There are various options of places to stay in Playa Hermosa. However, Playa Hermosa is not very big and during peak times this area gets packed quickly. Many of the options like a hostel, bed & breakfast, or small boutique style hotels are available. Almost all of the options are beach front which is something quite unusual to find in Costa Rica due to the strict regulations about the maritime zone.

Activities / Things to do

There are normally four main activities you can do at Playa Hermosa:
Surf
Playa Hermosa is world famous surfing destination. It was chosen as the site for the 2009 Billabong International Surf Competition due to its spectacular waves.
Sun bath
If you adore the sun, Playa Hermosa is the perfect place to get a great tan or a horrible sun burn. Because the sand here is volcanic and dark black in color it attracts the sun, so the best times to be out are early in the morning otherwise you are likely to get burnt as this beach offers very little shaded area.

If you would like to volunteer and give back to the community, you can help the local Hermosa animal refuge with various environmental projects. The refuge has been trying to implement beach clean up and a recycling pro harm. Also, one of the most rewarding things you can do is work with the sea turtles releasing them into the ocean when they are born.
Chill out
Hermosa Beach has a much laid back, hang lose, surfer attitude. If you need to relax, and chill out, Hermosa Beach is the ideal place to take a load off. You can also practice yoga on the beach. You can also find a local hammock to read a book or take a nap in. If you want to indulge yourself in lots of action, you must go to nearby Jaco Beach.

The Wildlife Refuge (Reserva Biological de Playa Hermosa)
At the south end of the road that runs parallel to the beach you will reach to the Wildlife Refuge of Playa Hermosa. You may visit the refuge during the day, except for Mondays. The Hermosa Refuge plays an important role in the protection of the Olive Ridley sea turtle. These turtles lay their eggs on the beach from July to December. The baby turtles hatch and head to the sea from October to February.

Getting to playa Hermosa

The easiest way to reach Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica is by car or taxi. Some public buses starting from Jaco to Quepos stop at Playa Hermosa. Taxis are based only in Jaco and can be hired.
From Public to private charter bus and shuttle services to rental cars and taxis this area is easily available from and to anywhere around. The roads into Playa Hermosa are paved and in relatively good conditions.
From the airport take the main highway; take the exit that is marked Jaco at La Garita. The road signs are clearly marked and it is hard to get lost. Pass through La Garita, through Atenas, over the Aguacate pass, through San Mateo, through Orotina. You will then continue on the Coastal Highway, you will pass Herradura, and Jaco. After Jaco you are just about 10km away from Playa Hermosa.

Playa Esterillos is possibly Costa Rica’s best-treasured wealth. It is located south of Playa Hermosa on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The Rocky Punta Judas divides the two beaches. The extensive beach of Playa Esterillos with the turquoise blue water body spread out continually as far as the eyes can observe. It has chocolate colored beaches with palm trees and almond trees line the forest edge. The energetic 7 feet high waves of the fresh sea water wash off the shoreline every now and then. The seven kilometer beach is ideal for long walk or jogging. The waves are not so steep or fast, they are shallow. The total beach is very long and is divided into three Oesto, Centro and Este and all of them offer good quality waves for surfers with any level of expertise. The world famous spots are Esterillos Oeste and Esterillos Centro, the Oeste beach is fabulous for beginners and amateurs and Centro is superb for experienced surfers. The waves are a beach break with rights and lefts and usually between 50 and 150 meters in length. On a good day you could be expecting waves to last as long as 300 meters. Swell direction is south-west and the swell starts at under 3 feet but can go up to and over 12 feet. Surfing is best on mid tides.
It is a cool region, full of life with fewer crowds, with fresh air and sunny weather. This little paradise has a very pleasant weather throughout the year. The sunrise of the Playa Esterillos is truly a sheer inspiration, with vehemence of everlasting feelings amidst the supreme beauty of the nature. The waves along Esterillos Centro and Este are strong, and quite similar to those in Playa Hermosa. Esterillos Oeste has a beach break that is especially fun during a big swell. Swimmers should stay closer to the northern end of Esterillos Oeste, where a calm tidal pool offers shelter from the area’s dangerous riptides. All three villages have a handful of hotels, cafes and vacation rentals for travelers of all budgets.
Besides surfing, there are lots of activities such as Horseback riding, Sport fishing, ATVs, Kayaking and much more. At low tide, the area of Esterillos beach increases considerably, creating a blemish free vastness of dark sand waiting to be explored by beach combers.

Accommodation

There are many Costa Rica vacation rentals in the area that can help you with exploring these tiny creations of God. Rental owners and their management company can arrange your whole vacation inclusive of the air tickets, accommodations, and even the car rentals. From the luxury villas and adventure lodges to the boutique hotels one can find every category. Among a number of well-furnished accommodations a few worth mentioning hotels are Encantada Ocean Cottage, La Dolce Vita and Pelican beach front. There are loads of inexpensive hotels to in Esterillos.

Casa De Los Suenos

Getting to Playa Esterillos

Playa Esterillos can be reached by either from the north or south end from Highway 34 (Costanera Sur). Quepos and nearby Manuel Antonio National Park are a 60 minutes drive down the highway to the south. Just 20 minutes south of Playa Hermosa, Playa Esterillos is a famous stop for any travelers seeking gentle ocean breezes and ample of sunshine and shade. Playa Esterillos are located near the amusing town of Jaco Beach, with lots of Hotels, Cabinas, Restaurants and fun places to eat and several adventure tours are available also.
To reach Playa Esterillos, you can take a car from Playa Hermosa and head south on the main highway. The Esterillos beach is signposted so you should not get lost and it is relatively quiet here during the week and on the weekends.
From San Jose, the International Airport or travel on the Central Pacific Highway to Jaco (approx. 2 hours), then 30km south, past Playa Hermosa, Playa Esterillos Oeste & Central (25 minutes), exiting at Playa Esterillos Este.
