Playa Tambor is located in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula in Puntarenas province. The Nicoya Peninsula is packed with beautifully attractive small beach towns, all with the same laid-back sensations and amazing surf. Engulfed by moist greenery with a gorgeous long sandy beach, it sits in Ballena Bay with tranquil aquamarine colored water, ideal for swimming, snorkeling and diving. Tambor is 1.5 kilometer long beach and has a lovely white sandy beach is also perfect for strolling and making your skin tan. It is situated about 20 kilometers south of Paquera and 38 kilometers south of Naranjo between thriving green hills. Playa Tambor, Costa Rica is a well developed town and even has its own domestic serving the entire of the southern region of the Nicoya Peninsula. It is bordered by two rocky platforms to the north and south and protected from Ocean swells that make it an ideal place for swimming, snorkeling and diving. A block buster Fox TV series “Temptation Island 2” was filmed in Tambor.

A most important attraction of Tambor is, the that whales migrate to Costa Rica annually from the north to the warm waters of Ballena Bay to mate and give birth in the middle of the plentiful marine habitat. Tambor is a fast growing tourist travel destination and is located in the province of Puntarenas. Getting to Tambor, Costa Rica

To reach Playa Tambour, it is best to fly into Tambor from San Jose Airport via a domestic flight. However, you can also drive or take a bus to Puntarenas city and
the best route to Playa Tambor is to take the Paquera ferry-boat from Puntarenas and from there 45 kilometers on paved road to Paquera- Playa Tambor. Another possibility is to take the Tempisque ferry and take the 107 kilometers route Puerto Moreno- San Blas- Jicaral- Playa Naranjo- Paquera- Tambor. We recommend a four wheel drive vehicle. . This drive, though a little bumpy, is very nice as it offers travelers stunning costal views, and lush green sceneries.
